inspiring magazine designs

Image
ADS These ad designs really appeal to me, since they manage to get their message across really well, despite not using a human subject to demonstrate it as you often see, the layout is very minimalistic as well, which to me is appealing since it doesn't overcrowd the page with information. the simplistic photos also appeal since they are son minimal, but they tell so much about the product. the ebay ad shows its an online store by making a store window display into the screen of a phone as if the phone is the store, and the maybelline ad shows that it's makeup by having the brush and pallette in the picture, since the pallette is in the picture it also tells you what your getting, rather than showing what it's for, since we already know that. Spreads these magazine layouts really appeal to me due to their simplistic designs, and the use of negative space, the use of it makes you able to recognize what the article is talking about, and the addition of simp...

Project #10 - portrait photography

Image
Fine art portraits: These are two photos i took for this project, at first i never really planned for either of them to end up as the fine art portion of this project, but in the end i feel like i did a good job of showing how the fine art portraits can have a lot more freedom of expression, they allowed me to play around a lot more than in commercial portraits and sort of do whatever i want. the photos started out really bland and boring, i only really focused on the subject and failed to incorporate the background into a part of the picture as well. in the end i wanted the photo to less emphasize the person and more so challenge what a portrait is by having them be the main subject, but do most of my work on altering the environment around them.  in the first photo i used the mixer brush in Photoshop to make it look as if everything man made that was on the subject was painted, showing that these objects are pieces of art as well even if we take them for granted. In...

1st semester reflection 1/23/2019

Image
these were 5 photos from the semester that i felt were my best. Each photo showed something that i had learned and improved on. the first photo showed an understanding of rule of thirds that was used to bring an aspect of geometric shapes into an organic photo. my second photo showed how i learned to take photos that emulate other photographers. it also allowed me to take a darker and dustier looking photo that didn't emphasize anything specifically. for the third i learned a lot about editing photos in light room. it let me experiment and create an image that appears alien through only changing the colours and light. my 4th photo showed an understanding of masking in Photoshop. i created a mask that included everything but the nail, and i applied a sepia tone to the mask. the last photo showed an understanding of colour as well as emphasis on a portion of the photo. overall i feel that the thing I have improved on most this semester is both editing as well as shoot...

Framing and Composition Photos

Image
These Photos were taken for a project in my photography class, and were taken with a Canon PowerShot SX200 IS. i took these photos on a walking field trip around downtown Portland close to my school. These photos were originally taken so that they did not need to be edited too too much, so the only edits i did to these were minor cropping and color correction (some more than others). but the reason why i chose these photos was because they best showed the style i go for in photography, as well as their portrayal of the techniques i was trying to use.

Contact Sheet This is my contact sheet for My photography project. These are used by photographers in order to organize and provide information about a photo set or album. It is also used to show a style and an overall theme between photos. In order to make mine I organized a bunch of photos in Adobe Lightroom and picked out a few that i felt best represented each technique, then i edited a copy of one image for each technique and a couple more, I then took the photos and organized them in google docs with a 6x6 grid

Elements of Art & Principles of Design

Image
elements of art and principles original poster (with credits) this project was for my photography class. I was required to find photos that used the elements of art, then take pictures for each element as well. I also had to find photos for each principle of design, and also take pictures for each.  I would describe the elements of art as things that all photos have, but can be emphasized to create a certain feel, and we can manipulate these elements in order to depict the principles of design. the principles are not present in every photo.

My Summer

Image
over my summer I went to myrtle beach to meet the rest of my family for a yearly family reunion. after that we went to San Juan island in my family's Cessna. we flew into a nearby airport and stayed at a nice hotel that was a lot cheaper than a bad hotel in Friday harbor. so we stayed in that hotel, and the next morning we flew into Friday harbor and got a rental car. we drove around and saw the sights on San Juan island. these photos were taken from our plane as we flew to Friday harbor
