Project #13 - Utopia/Dystopia




For the utopia i wanted to show how even though we often destroy nature, we also embrace it in many ways. We use plants as a symbol of beauty, and love. We often implement nature into art and we use it to decorate structures, show respect, and use it as a gesture of love. 

as for the dystopia, i tried to refrain from editing as much as possible. This was due to the meaning behind these. I created this series to show how humanity destroys nature for nothing but its own selfish benefit, so i left the photos natural to show respect for nature and that which we may take for granted.

Guess which is which!

These Photos were taken for a project in my photography class, and were taken with a Canon PowerShot SX200 IS. i took these photos on a walking field trip around downtown Portland close to my school. These photos were originally taken so that they did not need to be edited too too much, so the only edits i did to these were minor cropping and color correction (some more than others). but the reason why i chose these photos was because they best showed the style i go for in photography, as well as their portrayal of the techniques i was trying to use.

What is surrealism?

Surrealism was a movement in the 1920s that focused on the minds natural ability to skew and warp reality in unlikely ways. the surrealist works often focused on dreams and fantasy worrlds where things weren't necessarily normal. a famous story of Salvador Al Dali is how he got the ideas for his works. when he was running low on ideas he would try to take a nap, but in his hand he would hold a key above a metal dish. this way so when he was just about to fall asleep he would drop the key and the sound would wake him up. Frida Kahlo -- Without Hope, 1945 Salvador Dali -- The Temptation of Saint Anthony, 1946 Although surrealism is often paintings as i show above, it can also be used in photography with the use of tools such as photoshop, we can create similar surreal scenes that might convey similar emotions. Winter Formal 2018

This poster that i made was for the winter formal dance at LHS in portland oregon. I tried to avoid the cliche snowflakes in the poster, so instead i used cool colours and a pine tree to imply the winter theme.  edit: this ended up being the final draft of the poster, since they actually wanted a really cheesy poster. they wanted white gold and blue snowflakes, and instead of doing just one tone for each, i used slightly different tones for each snowflake so that it looked natural instead of Just copy and pasted.

Project #5 - Basic PS and Camera Controls

these pictures were for my photography class where we were experimenting and learning about several types of camera controls. by this, i mean how to use manual controls to make an image look like it has blurred motion, frozen motion, shallow depth of field, or deep depth of field. in order to shoot these, i had to put my camera into manual mode, and i had to change aperature, exposure, and shutter speed. this allowed me to get the achieved look, without editing.

She Kills Monsters

This was a poster that I made for Lincoln High School's play She Kills Monsters Written by Qui Nguyen and Directed by Francisco Garcia. It's a play about a famous D&D player who died, and her sister has to go on a quest to get back her soul from the evil Tiamat. The main character Agnes is portrayed above the title box, and she is using magic to make a D20, and on either side of her is two heads of the five headed Tiamat. The heads were drawn by Kai Field, and Agnes was drawn by Maia Clark. and my teacher was Jerod Schmidt
